The Business
This California-based Company has invested $6 million in a consumer beverage packaging technology over the past five years. The Company’s first product line, now ready for commercialization, consists of a single-use, ready-to-drink beverage cup that heats contents to over 150ºF/65ºC in about a minute; and a similar container that cools contents to 40ºF/4ºC in two minutes. The consumer need only press a button on the bottom of the cup and shake it lightly to begin the process.

Although there are related technologies around the globe, none are currently sold in the
United States, and none of the existing technologies appear to provide the same level of performance, quality, safety and reliability as the Company’s products. An earlier US maker of self-heating products in 2007-2008 validated the market opportunity by the sale of a million units a week with 50 million units annualized. This business failed due to the inability of a third-party manufacturer to meet production demand, however its CEO advised the Company and provided valuable experience and knowledge.

Market
The Company plans to focus on the Ready-To-Drink (RTD) segment, with tea and coffee as its fastest growing product groups. RTD tea consumption in the United States has almost doubled over the past 5 years, growing at double-digit rates annually. RTD coffee consumption grew by 8.1% in 2010, significantly outpacing the general beverage market, which only expanded by 1.2%.

In addition to the retail consumer market for its first product line, there are also opportunities for military and medical applications that are already being developed by the Company.

The Company is seeking an equity investor for its next stage of development.
